Forest Holidays’ named Best Sustainable Holiday at Family Traveller Awards

treehouseForest Holidays is celebrating after winning a prestigious tourism award at The Family Traveller Awards held at The White Company’s flagship store in Chelsea, London. The Awards recognise the best in family travel worldwide.

The holiday company which offers luxury woodland cabin stays across 9 forest locations in the UK, was presented with the award of Best Eco/Sustainable Holidays for Families winning over and above other shortlisters including Wilderness Safaris.  The winners were all voted for by thousands of Family Traveller magazine readers and in the final stages, a panel of experts including Editor of Family Traveller, Jane Anderson, broadcaster and writer Mariella Frostrup, BBC’s go-to travel documentary maker Simon Reeve; travel editor of The Times Jane Knight, and travel & lifestyle director of Elle, Sue Ward Davies.

Forest Holidays plan, design and build cabin locations with minimal impact on the forest. Their infrastructure blends seamlessly into the forest, retaining and enhancing the woodland, its wildlife and their habitats. Trees are rarely removed and if they are, at least twice as many trees are replanted as those removed. Wood for the timber cabins is from renewable sources and overhanging eaves ensure any rainwater falls back to the forest floor to maintain the hydrology balance. In addition, all cabins feature green heating systems, eco-friendly cleaning products and low energy LED lighting.

Bruce McKendrick, Chief Executive Officer at Forest Holidays, said: “We’re delighted that Forest Holidays has been voted the favourite eco/sustainable holiday for families. As a partner of the Forestry Commission, our 9 locations are based exclusively on the Public Forest Estate and it is important to us that all of our luxury cabins are built putting the environment first, retaining and enhancing the woodland, its wildlife and their habitats. Our cabin breaks allow families to relax or be as active as they wish in a wonderful forest setting and to enjoy a real close-up opportunity to spend quality time outdoors in a natural environment and of course to sleep in the forest.”

Andrew Dent, CEO and Publisher of Family Traveller Magazine says, “I would like to congratulate all of the winners and the runners-up of the Family Traveller Awards. Since launching the awards in 2015, we have increased the number of nominations, votes and categories to recognise all of the main sectors within the family travel market.  With over 18,000 votes, we are proud to have identified the true leaders in family travel.”
