One of the things I miss most about living in Gibraltar is the variety of organic farm shops that we had in the UK. In Hertfordshire there were several that I used to frequent and support. So I thought it would be a good idea to see what was out there. I found online The Organic Farm Shop, Abbey Home Farm in Cirencester.
They offer a wide range of opportunities from their shop which has their homegrown food, fairtrade textiles to hand reared meats, a cafe, a variety of courses, a place stay (with several different options to match all pockets), an eco venue and much more.
I quite fancy their Chutneys & Preserves course, which runs on the 21st September from 10-2.30pm, priced at £85 per person.
Autumn months are here. The hedgerows and gardens are starting to die back, but there is still plenty on offer to bottle up. Join us for a morning exploring how to preserve the flavour of autumn. We will create traditional sweet jams, make autumn fruits into chutney perfect for the Boxing day and explore infusing oils and vinegar with fruits and herbs to brighten up the dark days ahead. We will use the vegetable garden harvest for inspiration to preserve summer in a jar. We will also cover sterilisation technique. The class will be taught by local chef and cookery teacher Erin Baker, who was crowned the Supreme Pickle Champion 2016 at her local in Stroud.
