In the face of unprecedented climate emergency, The P.E.A Awards – the UK’s leading environmental awards body – appeals for the country’s government, citizens and brands to take radical, unified action to curb the world’s greenhouse gas emissions
Now in its 11th year, The P.E.A Awards, in association with Citrix, also calls for the British public to nominate their Green Heroes of 2021 – those already leading the way to protect the planet

In the wake of the UN Decade on EcoSystem Restoration’s (2021-2030) clarion call for the protection and revival of our planet’s ecosystems, Britain’s leading sustainability awards body – The P.E.A Awards (People Environment Achievement), in association with Citrix – urges the government, citizens and brands of Britain to rally together to tackle the escalating climate emergency.
Jarvis Smith, Founder of the P.E.A Awards, invites the British public to join the ‘Age of Restoration’:
“The recent unprecedented, devastating heat waves in Canada and the West US, leading to hundreds of deaths, are a stark reminder that the world at large is in serious jeopardy as the climate crisis warms up the planet. We have to act now, all of us – the government, brands, organisations and every individual. We have to make giving back to Nature as normal as taking from Nature has become, and build a fast track to net zero without reinventing the wheel.
“To do this, we invite everyone to buy from ethical brands that are committed to giving back to Nature and which embed restoration into all their audited transactions. Everyone buys stuff so everyone can become conscious consumers. In 2019, there were 40 billion UK payments – if a tree were planted for every one of those transactions, we’d offset the entire human population’s carbon footprint for one year, amounting to 40 billion tonnes.”
Nominate your Green Heroes of 2021!
Nominations are now open for the British public to choose their Green Heroes of 2021 for the 11th P.E.A Awards, the UK’s longest-standing environmental awards show.
With 15 categories, including Britain’s Greenest Family and Green Pioneer, The P.E.A Awards, in association with Citrix, offer the chance to celebrate and highlight the individuals, products, services and businesses they believe are leading the charge to protect our planet.
“I call them the P.E.A.ple’s Awards,” says Jarvis Smith, who left a successful career in advertising to commit to helping make the world a greener place after living on a landfill site for three weeks as part of Channel 4’s Dumped programme, where he was shocked at the unnecessary amount of waste we create as a society. “I set up the P.E.A. Awards to say thank you to those people, often unseen, sticking their necks out and putting themselves wholeheartedly into saving the world – and ultimately ourselves – often with little money or support. Please put forward your picks for the Green Heroes of 2021!”
Nominations are open to the public at www.peaawards.com/categories. Winners will be announced at the P.E.A. Awards 2021 ceremony in October this year, and will receive high profile editorial in My Green Pod magazine, distributed with The Guardian in print and online to over 7 million people.
Katie Hill, Chairperson for the all-female Judging panel for the P.E.A Awards and Co-founder of My Green Pod, adds: “We are now at the most important time in humanity’s history. The climate crisis is a global issue that will only be solved if every single one of us mucks in, so we urge you to join the Age of Restoration by giving back to Nature with all your audited transactions.
“At My Green Pod, we’ve partnered with reforestation charity TreeSisters to plant a tree with every transaction on our ethical online shop. Other brands embedding restoration include natural beauty company, Weleda, who have pledged to plant one million trees, and Yeo Valley who are committed to organic and regenerative farming. We encourage everyone to shop with discernment, making the shift from consumers to restorers – it’s the simplest, quickest way we can all help to reverse climate change.”
