Family Recipe Box Suitable For All Ages – Including Weaning Babies!

pickleFamily recipe box start-up Pickle & Squash aims to take the hassle out of cooking and make family mealtimes easy and fun with their simple motto: Don’t Cook Twice. Their fortnightly boxes are delivered nationwide and come with all the ingredients you need to create crowd-pleasing meals that everyone will enjoy, from the fussiest of weaning babies to the most discerning of adults.

Launched by two South East-London based mums, Alice Chandler and Laura Zaccagnini, Pickle & Squash was created in May 2020, in the height of the first lockdown, after Alice was made redundant while pregnant with her second child and Laura was at her home with her one-year-old. After Laura struggled with weaning her son and couldn’t find a recipe box that was suitable for little ones too, the pair had a light bulb moment and decided to create one themselves.

The brand prides itself on creating healthy, balanced recipe boxes that are packed full of all the nutrients little ones need to grow and thrive. The recipes are masterminded by Alice, who has a degree in Food and Nutrition, as well as 15 years’ experience in recipe development for brands including Pret a Manger and Ella’s Kitchen, where she was responsible for creating some of the baby food brand’s most popular pouches and meals. With a background in product planning, Laura handles the operational side of the business. With three children under three between them, the business was created around busy schedules and nap times, designed by mums, for mums.

All of the meat used in Pickle & Squash’s boxes is free range, high welfare and grass reared, and the majority of the fruit, vegetables and grains they use are sourced from local organic suppliers. Each of their innovative recipe cards comes with a handy weaning guide which includes serving suggestions depending on age and weaning stage, as well as child-friendly tasks to keep little hands occupied.

The brand aims to be as sustainable as possible, using 100% recyclable paper bags and cardboard boxes, 100% degradable bags to portion out their nuts, spices and grains, and insulation made from recycled wool to keep food fresh. Their pre-portioned ingredients also drastically cut down on food waste, accommodating modern parents who are both eco-conscious and health oriented, but often tight on time.

Their clever gift subscription scheme, available for either three, six, nine or 12 months, or as a one-off box purchase, is the ultimate present for time-poor parents this Christmas. What could be better than the gift of nutritious food and a break from the relentless cycle of meal planning and food shopping?
